Almaty City Tour

Almaty is modern, multinational and green city in the footsteps of Ile-Alatau mountains

Location description:

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan Republic located in Central Asia in the footsteps of Ili-Alatau mountains – part of Tian Shan. It’s former capital of Kazakhstan and still sometimes called as South Capital. The city is a commercial, financial and cultural center of the Republic. The population of the city is about 2 million people. The main pearl and beauty of the city is local mountains stretching on the South from East to West and visible from any point. While walking in the city you will notice a small constant slope going up into the mountains. City is very green with several big mountain rivers crossing the city. Almaty represents a mixture of cultures, architectural styles and nationalities. It was founded in 1854 as military post of Russia and initially was called “Verniy”. During soviet times it was called Alma-Ata (translate from kazakh: Apple- GrandFather) as there were many apple gardens all around the city. Apple is still considered as a symbol of the city. You can describe Almaty for long time, but as russian proverb says “it better once to see rather than hundred times to hear”.
